Melodrama.

The most important event to happen since Pure Heroine, and we weren’t around to report it (again, apologies). ICYMI on Thursday 2nd March at 7pm GMT Lorde (real name Ella Yelich O’Connor) released her new single ‘Green Light’ – and it is the most amazing record since Royals. Green Light tells the tale of her first ‘proper break-up’ (with Ex-Boyfriend James Lowe).

Green Light was released after a month of teasing through her promotional website – https://www.imwaitingforit.com – which displayed various clips of Green Light before it was released. The same website currently displays the music video for Green Light.

At the same time as releasing Green Light, Lorde announced the title of her sophomore album. Melodrama. We, here at the Lorde Club, cannot wait for the release of Melodrama. Check Back for more news of Melodrama, right here – at the Lorde Club.

Listen: “Lost Boys” Snippet.

Posted by Posted on Dec,11 2014 Filed under Music, Tumblr

While digging through the archives, Lorde found an unreleased song, “Lost Boys,” that she recorded in one day, back in March 2013. The snippet of “Lost Boys” that Lorde shared on her Tumblr is “shitty iPhone quality,” which she apologizes for, and yet, while she claims “it’s not a good song,” there’s potential.

“We’ll stay at your house/ Watch all those late shows on TV/ I like you best when you’re right here with me,” she sings. (Who can’t relate? And it’s perfect for the holdiay season.)

She shared a note of the song on her Tumblr, which reads:

“found this little guy whilst trawling through my archives and thought it would be a cute thing to share with y’all. we wrote this song called lost boys in about march of last year, we spent a day on it and then never touched it again (it was not a good song, i promise, haha). a lot of people asked what happened to lost boys, and i guess you’ll never hear the other three-quarters of the song, but there was something about these bridge melodies i thought was pretty. so here you go – a little pre-christmas look at the cutting room floor. xo

ps. sorry for shitty iphone quality :~)”

Video: Lorde Discusses Her ‘Vision’ for Curating the ‘Hunger Games’ Soundtrack

Posted by Posted on Oct,21 2014 Filed under The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I, Videos

Now that the incredible tracklist for the Lorde-curated The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack is out, Billboard is excited to share an exclusive video interview with the New Zealand singer-songwriter that finds her telling the story of how the whole project came together.

On hand-picking the songs and artists that wound up in the film, the 17-year-old pop star goes into great detail, explaining she first got involved when she was asked to contribute a new song to the end credits.

That song was the recently released “Yellow Flicker Beat,” but thanks to her publisher’s recommendation, she went on to curate the entire soundtrack, turning Mockingjay into her “musical vision.”

“I was really interested in that because I love Katniss as a character,” Lorde says. “I think she’s so complex.”

Selecting musicians to partake in the film wound up leading to some “crazy experiences,” Lorde said, such as calling Grace Jones directly on the phone.

“It was really important to me with the soundtrack that people know how involved I was. A lot of that was me reaching out to people directly, having a conversation on the phone, sending an email, sending a text, because I wanted people to know that your song isn’t just going to be flung into some pot and chosen later. I really cared about what was happening.”

Watch the video here, including the singer — who will appear on an upcoming cover of Billboard — revealing details about visiting the film’s set:
